Nothing says springtime like sunshine, warmer temperatures, and leisurely bike rides. But with springtime fun comes the need for safety awareness. Don't let a preventable injury get in the way of enjoying the outdoors.

Parr Richey knows the importance of bicycle safety and will present "PedalPalooza" as part PedalPaloozaLOGO%20%285%29.jpgof the nation-wide YMCA's Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 30th which raises public awareness and promotes healthy lifestyles among youth and families. The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Witham Family YMCA, 2791 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana and is FREE and open to the public. To promote bike safety, Paul Kruse and Tony Patterson will pass out 100 free children's bicycle helmets, bike reflectors, and will give away one boys bicycle and one girls bicycle at their "PedalPalooza" booth.

Bicycle safety is an area of concern for Parr Richey as over half a million bicyclists visit emergency rooms across the country with bicycling injuries every year, and over 1,000 bicyclists are killed annually. Experts agree that head injuries sustained in bicycle related incidents are the leading cause of death and are the biggest factor in permanent injuries attained from bicycling. Wearing a bicycle helmet is the most effective safety precaution that can be taken to reduce the likelihood of head injuries and deaths from bicycle crashes. Fox 59 Interview

Paul Kruse served as President of Witham Family YMCA Board of Directors from 1995 to 2009. Paul's involvement and support of Witham YMCA is a natural tie for Parr Richey creating PedalPalooza and promoting bike safety.

"Children often think that wearing a bike helmet isn't cool, but wearing a helmet can save a child's life," says Paul Kruse. "PedalPalooza is a fun way to advocate bike safety awareness and prevent bicycle injuries from occurring." Channel 8 Interview

Bring your kids, learn about safety, and join the fun. Put safety first this spring and make sure to enjoy the warm weather injury-free.
